Tonight's beer: 21st Amendment Lower De Boom
Lots of toasty-caramel (almost buttery) on top of pale bread. Floral-grassy-piny-citrussy bitterness emerges through the middle. Maybe a flicker of tropical musk around the edges. Dried dark fruits—dates and figs, mostly—in the background, hints of dark spice. Finishes very dry, pleasantly.
Kinda thick and soft, decently carbonated. A good bit of bready stickiness, but eventually tends toward scrubbing and scouring (even though it's not particularly clean). Some boozy glow, remarkably subdued for 11.5% ABV. Wraps up drying, nicely.
It's been a while since I've had this beer—it's been a while since I've seen it in a store, I think— but this has about two years on it, and it's aged into something delicious. Intense and complex; balanced and well-integrated and impressively drinkable. Graceful, supple, subtle; lots of alcohol but not in any way in-your-face about it.
