Green Flash Palate Wrecker

Tonight's beer: Green Flash Palate Wrecker

Green Flash Palate Wrecker

A solid wall of bitterness falls over across the tongue: flowers and grass and pine, with backing threads of citrus and musk. Some bread in-between the bricks of that wall, kinda like mortar; caramel and toast sprinkled in the distance. Stunningly bitter, then a brief moment of almost-sweetness (like a glimmer of hope, or something) before the beer turns scouringly dry.

A little thicker than medium-bodied, decently-carbonated. Some bready chewiness and a lot of resinous-syrupy stickiness. Massively drying, scrubbing to the point of scouring. Alarmingly little in the way of alcohol heat, given the 9.5% ABV.

A big and delicious Double IPA, laden with hops character but something surprisingly close to balanced for the style—probably more like poised and integrated. Intense as hell and insanely  complex, stupidly drinkable. A beer I like a lot, one of my favorites in the style.
