Tonight's beer: Heavy Seas Deep Six

Heavy Seas Deep Six

Chocolate and coffee—kinda like mulch, really—richly threaded with dark bread and caramel and toast. Earthy-grassy bitterness dances in contrapuntal circles with all that roast and toast. Hints of peat, vanilla, spice, dark dried/candied/burnt fruits. Darkly bittersweet from the start, evolves smoothly toward dry.

Kinda bready-thick and chewy, pretty well-carbonated. Notably smooth, a little coating. Softly drying, surprisingly close to refreshing.

A very tasty porter, heavily tilted toward the sweet roasty malts , but nicely poised and well-integrated. Intense and complex, immensely drinkable. Reasonably local brewery continues to make good, big-time (not as though that's any kind of shock, as long as they've been doing this). The beer really doesn't put a foot wrong, at all.
