Tonight's beer: Lagunitas Little Sumpin' Sumpin'
Starts with a bright flash of bitterness: Mostly citrus (lemons and oranges and grapefruit); overtones of pine and flowers and grass. Pale bread in the background, some caramel; possibilities of spice in the distance. Bitterness re-asserts itself into a sharply dry finish.
Light-bodied, finely carbonated. Some soft bready chewiness, threads of resinous stickiness. Cleansing, drying, impressively refreshing.
This is a tasty, tasty beer, laden with American hops and only balanced in a usage of the term so broad as to be meaningless; it's more like contrapuntal. Blisteringly intense and complex. Nicely integrated and astonishingly drinkable. Lagunitas definitely know their way around insanely hoppy beers, as evidenced by this.
