Tonight's beer: Port Santa's Little Helper
Dark chocolate, spiked with coffee, backed by dark bread, toast, caramel. Dark candied/burnt fruits in the distance: mainly cherries, some dates, figs, plums. Earthy-grassy bitterness emerges into the finish, along with threads of smoke, peat, and ash. Dim sparkles of vanilla. Darkly bittersweet; dries out a bit, gradually.
Bready-soft, thick, chewy; carbonation maybe a little sparse but at least adequate. Some vague stickiness into a languid finish, sluggishly drying. Basically no alcohol heat or prickle.
Very much the yum. Crazily intense and amazingly complex, superbly well-integrated; more poised than balanced but remarkably supple, something close to graceful. Alarmingly drinkable, with no warning at all of the 10% ABV. Delicious from start to finish. Another beautiful beer from Port.
