Tonight's beer: Stillwater Artisanal Classique
Starts startlingly bitter—earth and grass, flickers of pine; pale fruits step forward through the middle: pears and apples, maybe stonefruit like peaches and nectarines. Pale breads dances around the edges, at least for a few moments. Dries out quickly and completely, with a vanishing sprinkle of black pepper.
Very light-bodied, very well-carbonated. Bordering on thin, but it's hard for a beer not to feel a little thin when it's only 4.5% ABV, Clean and cleansing,. scrubbing and drying and immensely refreshing.
A delicious and very drinkable beer, surprisingly intense for such a low ABV, and remarkably complex. More like poised than balanced, wonderfully well-integrated. A marvelous beer to have as the weather edges toward warm, eventually. Maybe. Stillwater continues to make superb beer.
