Tonight's beer: Terrapin Midnight Monk
Dark bread, chocolate, caramel, toast, sparkles of coffee. Toffee and nuts in the background. Grassy-floral bitterness with threads of citrus and pine a solid counterpoint. Flickers of dried/candied fruits (plums, cherries, dates, figs, grapes) and baking spice lingering in the distance. Wraps up quickly dry.
Maybe a little on the light side of medium-bodied, nicely carbonated. Some soft-ish bready chewiness, a few threads of resinous-syrupy stickiness. Eventually, gradually drying and surprisingly refreshing. Roughly zero alcohol presence.
A delicious beer, holds up well after probably longer in the bottle than would normally work for an IPA-ish style. Impressively complex and intense, wonderfully well-integrated and balanced. Lots of substance here, though I don't know that I'd want to age it much longer. Scarily drinkable, especially for 9.8% ABV.
