Tonight's beer: Tröegs Nugget Nectar
Citrussy bitterness—lime and grapefruit, threads of orange—spiked with floral and piny notes; a counterpoint of bready-caramel sweetness, flecked with toast. Flickers of dried/candied fruits—pale apples and pears, some peaches and other stonefruit—and maybe baking spice. Tightly-woven bitter and sweet from start to finish, dries out smoothly and thoroughly by the end, into the aftertaste and beyond.
Medium-bodied, nicely carbonated. Some bready chewiness, a good bit of resinous stickiness. Cleansing and scrubbing, drying and astonishingly refreshing.
Yum! One of my favorite beers, hoppy enough to sate a jones for hops (and then some) but more than adequate sweetness to make the beer marvelously well-balanced. Intense as hell and staggeringly complex, amazingly well-integrated and drinkable. This beer is one of a very few good things about this time of year.
