It's beer and food night!
The beer is, obviously, Heavy Seas Deep Six porter. It's rich and chocolatey, with a little bit of coffee and earthiness lurking around the edges.
The food is our beef chili, made with a 4-oz. bar of 100% cacao, coffee grounds, a rather alarming amount of (relatively mild) peppers, and 2 12-oz. bottles of imperial stout (in this case, Heavy Seas Peg Leg). It's not all that hot, really, but there's a lot going on. A hell of a lot going on. It's rich and massive, roasty and dark, so obviously a porter is a perfect beer to drink with it, in a complementary way.
There wasn't a lot of contrast, here, but the sweetness and chocolate were brought to the front of the beer, and the beef was brought to eh front of the chili.
As a bonus, we have lunches for the better part of two weeks, as leftovers.
