Tonight's beer: Hardywood Bourbon Barrel GBS
Dark bread, molasses, vanilla, ginger. Caramel and toast, chocolate and maybe coffee in the background. Hints of smoke and earthy-grassy bitterness around the edges, with a possibility of dark dried/burnt fruit lurking in the distance. Massively sweet from the start, eventually works in the direction of dry, kind of.
Thick, dense, smooth; kinda viscous and very sticky. Given the 10.6% ABV, roughly zero alcohol presence. Carbonation a little on the sparse side, but adequate. A bit chewy into the finish.
Wow. I think I had the ordinary Gingerbread Stout from these folks at a large-ish tasting, once, but I don't remember it as being this smooth and powerful. This is intense as hell and mind-blowingly complex, impressively balanced. Alarmingly drinkable, supple and graceful. Pretty much a dessert beer, but an incredibly tasty one.
