Tonight's beer: Monday Night Gun Show

Monday Night Gun Show

Lots of pale fruit to open—pears on top, apples and white grapes and apricots and peaches underneath—dried and candied. Pale bread lurking behind, with maybe a flicker of caramel. Floral-grassy bitterness emerges around the middle, with sparkles of pine and citrus. Transitions quickly to an easy dryness. Maybe a dim hint of brandy and/or rum.

A bit on the light side of medium-bodied, decently carbonated. Some stickiness around the edges, but eventually pretty clean. Softly drying, with a subdued boozy prickle and glow. Tends strongly to refreshing on and after the finish.

A pretty tasty Belgian strong pale ale—the pears are appropriate, just maybe a bit on the much side (though I really don't like pears on their own, so that might be effecting my judgment); intense and complex, pretty well-integrated. Pretty drinkable, in a sipping beer way. Probably the first beer I've had from Monday Night I haven't loved, but see my above comment about not liking pears much (and this beer is infused with pear juice). That's not strictly the brewery's fault, or the beer's.
