Sixpoint Hi-Res

Tonight's beer: Sixpoint Hi-Res

Sixpoint Hi-Res

Starts with a densely-packed shockwave of bitterness: pine, flowers, grass, citrus (grapefruit, some orange and lime); musk woven in, some tropical fruits lurking. Bitterness wrapes around the other side, turns into an almost-syrupy sweetness and melds with soft and supple breadiness that otherwise would go unnoticed. Bitterness ebbs, eventually, leaving a finish that's surprisingly dry.

Kinda syrupy-thick, decently carbonated. Resinous stickiness, drying and scouring, eventually almost refreshing. Some subdued boozy prickle, pretty understated for 10.5% ABV.

Holy crap! This is kinda crazy and more than a little over the top, but delicious and eerily drinkable (and entirely to-style, for all-a-that). Intense as hell, and amazingly complex; "balanced" is in some parallel universe, not this beer, but it holds together very well. Sixpoint do make some tasty, tasty beers.
