Southern Tier Pumpking, Coq au Biere

Southern Tier Pumpking, Coq au Biere

It's Saturday so it's beer and food!

Tonight's food is kinda a curried pumpkin coq au biere, based kinda loosely on a recipe from a cooking magazine a couple months ago, with the beer in the recipe being Southern Tier Pumking, which is also the beer we drank with it.

The recipe worked surprisingly well. I used a packaged curry powder, because I am lame and too lazy to toast and then grind whole spices, but the flavors still played well with the beer. Interestingly, there was more bitterness in the dish than I normally get out of the beer. It wasn't any sort of surprise that the beer went well with the dish, considering how much of it there was in the dish, even though this isn't normally a beer I'd think of as a food beer. Now, we're more curious about how it would work with other food, particularly more authentic curries (which this isn't, and isn't even trying to be).
