Tonight's beer: Stillwater Artisanal A Saison Darkly
Dark fruit, hints of caramel, toast, dark bread. Grassy-floral-earthy bitterness fills in right behind. Traces of coffee and chocolate crowd around the edges. Flickers of pepper and spice into a rapidly dry finish. Maybe a hint of brandy and/or rum.
Surprisingly light-bodied for a biggish dark beer (even in a more or less Belgian style), highly carbonated. Scrubbing and cleansing and drying, very refreshing; roughly no hint of the 8% ABV.
A very tasty dark saison—more floral--grassy and a good deal less roasty than Existent. Plenty intense and complex, nicely balanced and integrated. Massively drinkable, with alarmingly little alcohol presence. Clearly, a beer that would go marvelously well with food; most of Stillwater's beers do.
