Tonight's beer: Allagash Fluxus (2014)
Starts out bready-sweet, layered with honey, with flickers of caramel and maybe toast. Some pine (probably spruce, really) but not bitter right away. Pale fruits—white grapes, apricots, peaches, pears, apples—fill in through the middle; hints of bright spice. Earthy-grassy bitterness emerges into the finish, as the beer slides easily to quite dry.
Pretty light-bodied, nicely carbonated. A little resinous-syrupy stickiness around the end, eventually cleansing and drying and refreshing. Really no indication or warning of the 8.8% ABV.
A delicious, delicious beer. Lots of honey, some spice. Lots of stuff in this beer, intense and complex, surprisingly balanced. Deliriously drinkable, though at 8.8% ABV, it's strong enough to be a sipping beer. Very nice, as the Fluxus beers are, every year.
