Tonight's beer: Anchor Saison
Pale bread, layered with lots of bright pale fruits: lemons up front, with pears, apples, white grapes, peaches, apricots. Hints of spice—mainly the ginger added, but maybe some cloves and/or allspice. Dim traces of honey. Grassy-floral-peppery bitterness flashes briefly around the finish, as the beer transitions sharply to sharply dry.
Light-bodied, with lots of carbonation. Some bready stickiness and chewiness, mostly clean and cleansing, subbing and drying and immensely refreshing.
A superbly drinkable saison, something of a first from a brewery I trust a lot. More yeast character than any other beer I've had from Anchor, I think. Intense and very complex, balanced and beautifully integrated. Delicious all-around.
