Andecher Weissbier Hell

Tonight's beer: Andecher Weissbier Hell

Andecher Weissbier Hell

Bananas and bubblegum up front, backed my some cloves and maybe some allspice. Pale bread around the middle, with threads of caramel and other pale fruits (apples and pears and white grapes). Pepper and smoke lurk around the edges; a surprising amount of grassy-floral bitterness steps forward around the finish, as the beer dries out sharply and thoroughly.

Just on the light side of medium-bodied, with lots of carbonation. Smooth like a silk ribbon, just a little scrubbing and cleansing, a trace of soft stickiness; gently drying and massively refreshing.

A delicious hefeweizen, screamingly authentic. Astonishingly complex and intense, given the moderate (5.5%) ABV; wonderfully balanced (with a surprising kick of bitterness), beautifully integrated, giddily drinkable. As good a hefeweizen as their doppelbock is a doppelbock.
