Tonight's beer: Ommegang Adoration
Caramel and toast and dark bread, hints of molasses and maple; peat and smoke, dark fruit and baking spice (cherries and plums; cloves and allspice). Hints of brighter more citrussy fruits around the edges, some cardamom-ish flickers. Earthy-grassy bitterness emerges as the beer slopes gently dryward. A soft distant glow of rum and/or brandy.
Pretty light-bodied, highly carbonated. Immensely drying and powerfully refreshing; surprisingly cleansing and almost scrubbing. Just a soft aura of alcohol, very subdued for 10% ABV. Maybe a trace of stickiness past the end.
An extraordinarily tasty beer, beautifully drinkable. Incredibly intense and complex, marvelously well balanced and integrated. Ommegang add lots of seasonings to this, but the beer itself shines through. Yet another truly superb beer from Ommegang.
