Southern Tier 2X ONE

Tonight's beer: Southern Tier 2X ONE

Southern Tier 2X ONE

A short crescendo of musky tropical fruits to open, backed my melons, citrus (lime and orange) flowers, grass, pine. Bready sweetness in the background, touches of caramel and maybe honey. Wraps up quickly dry.

Light-bodied and well-carbonated, drying and astonishingly refreshing. Some resinous-syrupy stickiness around the finish, but mostly clean; powerfully cleansing, almost scrubbing. Basically no detectable alcohol presence.

A very nice, very drinkable double IPA, hopped very subtly for the style—though that gradual build is probably in the character of the Equinox hops used here. Builds smoothly and quickly to quite intense, impressively complex; surprisingly well-balanced for the style, especially for such a relatively simple take on it; nicely integrated. More than a little exotic. My fannishness for Southern Tier continues to grow.
