Tröegs Nugget Nectar and Cubano-style sandwiches

Tröegs Nugget Nectar and Cubano-style santwiches

Beer and food! (Back on Saturday, where it more or less  belongs)

The beer is, obviously, Tröegs Nugget Nectar, a big and bold and hops-forward American Amber Ale. The food is quasi-Cubano sandwiches, with pan-fried potato slices.

The pairing worked pretty well, really. Nugget Nectar is a clean enough beer that it was able to get out of the way of the food, but there's enough malt-sweetness (some of it more than a little fruity) that it melded with the potatoes, and the pulled pork and the prosciutto on the sandwich. The (loads and loads of) hops made sure the beer stood up to the mustard and the garlicky dill pickle slices.

Overall, I am pleased with this. I could probably do with thinking about how to better assemble the sandwiches, and it's possible that a softer bread would make for more contrast between the bits crisped in the pan the the bits not.
