Tonight's beer: Brouwerij West Mør Mør
Dark bread, caramel, nuts and toffee layered heavily with dark fruits—dried or candied or maybe even burnt—cherries, grapes, plums, dates, figs; impressions of ash and smoke and tobacco, maybe chocolate and/or coffee, in the background. Dark baking spices around the edges: cloves, allspice, maybe cinnamon; earthy-grassy bitterness flashes dimly by around the finish, with thin wisps of dark spirits, mostly brandy with hints of rum and whiskey. Dries out gradually, a little.
Maybe a bit thicker than medium-bodied, nicely carbonated. Some bready chewiness, a little soft; hints of stickiness into a drying finish, gradually cleansing and surprisingly refreshing. Some gently boozy warmth, pretty subdued for 10.5% ABV.
A drinkable quadrupel, almost vinous but tasty as hell anyway; amazingly subtle and supple and graceful. Seriously intense, staggeringly complex; so many thread, tightly woven into a massive unity. Very mild alcohol presence for a beer this strong. I haven't had anything else from these folks that I know of; this is impressive.
