Tonight's beer: Deschutes Zarabanda
Pale bread and fruits to open—pears and apples, lemon and lime—with a floral-grassy-bitter counterpoint. Peppery hints in the background, traces of herbs and savory spice. Dries out gradually but pretty thoroughly.
Light-ish-bodied, finely carbonated. Some soft stickiness but mostly drying, cleansing, very refreshing. Traces of flintiness into the finish.
So Deschutes works on a beer recipe with José Andrés and the result is delicious; it's so predictable that it's almost shocking. Intense and complex, with lot sof spices and herbs and whatnot thrown in, but everything balances and holds together nicely. Impressively drinkable, and a beer that all but begs to be served with food; alas, this is all of it that we have.
