Tonight's beer: Monday Night Bourbon Barrel Drafty Kilt

Monday Night Bourbon Barrel Drafty Kilt

Vanilla and smoke up-front, then caramel and toast; peaty-earthy bitterness around the edges. Dried dark fruits occupy the middle—plums, cherries, figs, dates. Evolves in the direction of dry, eventually, a little.

A bit thicker than medium-bodied, decently carbonated. Some bready chewiness and stickiness, distinct hints of boozy heat into the finish. Gently drying, finally warming.

The standard version of this beer is quite tasty; this is bigger, brawnier, hotter, laden with bourbon character. Intense and very complex, a bourbon-spiked and smoky malt-bomb (appropriately for the style, and apparently as the brewers intended); holds together superbly well. I've had a few beers from these folks by this point, and they've all impressed.
