Tonight's beer: Oskar Blues Gubna
Searingly bitter to start: flowers and pine and grass, threads of mostly-grapefruity citrus, and possibilities of musk. Pale bread fills in below and behind, with grace notes of caramel and pepper. Dried fruit flickers on the periphery. Transitions quickly to sharply dry.
Maybe a little thicker than medium-bodied, with a bit of resinous-syrupy stickiness; lightly but adequately carbonated. Scrubbing and almost scouring, eventually drying and almost refreshing. Alarmingly little alcohol presence, considering the 10% ABV.
A tasty and scarily drinkable Double IPA. Crazily intense and staggeringly complex and deliriously unbalanced (but soundly poised and clearly intentional). Oskar Blues make some superb beers, of which this is definitely one. Loaded with the yum.
