Southern Tier Choklat

Tonight's beer: Southern Tier Choklat

Southern Tier Choklat

A big smear of dark chocolate to open, with lots of caramel and some vanilla right behind, layers of bread and toast. Burnt dark fruits lurk in the background, mostly cherries and raisins; earthy bitterness and hints of coffee emerge around the finish as the beer tries (and mostly fails) to dry out some.

A bit thicker than medium-bodied, kinda sparsely carbonated. Lots of syrupy and bready stickiness, some chewiness. Coating, eventually a bit drying. Practically no trace of the 10% ABV, anywhere.

A delicious and chocolaty—and very, *very* sweet—big American stout. Definitely a beer dominated by the chocolate, but there are other things going on underneath; intensely flavorful, nicely integrated. It's like a big and boozy dark chocolate bar, definitely a dessert beer. Plenty drinkable, for all-a-that.
