Surly Furious

Tonight's beer: Surly Furious

Surly Furious

Starts very bitter: floral and citrussy (grapefruit, orange lime) with threads of pine and grass. Bready sweetness arises quickly through the middle, with layers of caramel and toast. Dries out sharply into the finish.

Medium-bodied, maybe a bit thicker than that; distinctly smooth but nicely carbonated. Bristly and prickly, intensely drying; scrubbing, almost scouring. Hints of lingering resinous-syrupy stickiness.

A delicious IPA, more like balanced than I remember, which could be me or the beer, four years later. Intense as hell, plenty complex, and wonderfully well-integrated. Astonishingly drinkable. This isn't a beer that's easy for me to get around here, but it's worth making the occasional effort. Surly does good stuff, in my (limited) experience.
