Tonight's beer: Ballast Point Sculpin

Ballast Point Sculpin

Grapefruit and flowers and pine to open; other citrus—mainly lime and orange—woven in. Some pale-bready sweetness emerges around the middle with touches of caramel; then it fades into the bitterness as the beer snaps directly to a bone-dry finish.

Medium-bodied, decently-carbonated, some grittiness (scrubbing and scouring and cleansing). Eventually drying and surprisingly refreshing. A little resinous-syrupy stickiness at the end, a bit of soft chewiness.

Yum. Lots of good stuff in this beer, flavorwise: stupidly intense and complex, nicely integrated if more poised than balanced. Supple and graceful and immensely drinkable. The folks at Ballast point haven't disappointed me yet.
