Brasserie Antonio Borunda Insomnia

This afternoon's beer: Brasserie Antonio Borunda Insomnia

Brasserie Antonio Borunda Insomnia

Lots of roast to start: coffee and dark chocolate, mostly; some burnt toast, some caramel filling in. Deeply candied fruits—cherries, figs, dates—around the middle, backed by earth and grass and peat. Flickers of nuts and smoke and vanilla in the distance. Wraps up pretty dry.

Pretty light-bodied for a stout, just a bit thicker than medium-bodied, nicely carbonated. Just a trace of soft stickiness before the finish turns the beer toward drying and surprisingly refreshing. Remarkably little alcohol presence for 8% + ABV.

Antonio has some chops, y'all. This is impressively well-balanced, nicely intense and complex. Kinda scarily drinkable. Supple and subtle and surprisingly graceful. I have no idea how coffee-buzzy this is, but it fulls in nicely for a second coffee on a  slow and casual -morning- afternoon.
