Tonight's beer: Brewer's Art Sangreale
Starts with some bright fruits—cherries, pears, apples—on top of some pale bread touched with honey. Hints of toast, maybe. Grassy-floral bitterness arises through the middle as the beer veers sharply to dry.
Light-bodied, well-carbonated. Powerfully drying and refreshing, cleansing and scrubbing. Some soft-bready stickiness hangs around into and beyond a quick finish. Something almost flinty lingers.
A very tasty saison from a nearby brewery that almost always does superb work. Remarkably intense and complex, given the 6% ABV, wonderfully well-balanced and integrated. Astonishingly drinkable. Ya gotta love a brewer that can get a saison right and demonstrate some creativity in the process.
