Tonight's beer: Fort Collins Black Sheep
Lots of bitterness, an interplay between roasty (chocolate and coffee) and hoppy (flowers, grass, grapefruit, a touch of pine). Some dark bread beneath, toasted around the edges and brushed with molasses. Finishes quickly and mostly dry.
Pretty much medium-bodied, maybe a little lighter; decently carbonated. Some flinty mineral character emerges, become way forward toward the end. Mostly drying and refreshing, just a touch of resinous-syrupy stickiness.
A nice black IPA, maybe not the type of hops character I'd expect from the style, but tasty. Complex and intense, reasonably well-composted, even if "balanced" isn't a relevant concept. Pretty drinkable. If I've had anything from these people before, I've forgotten it. I'll have to look for more, I think.
