Tonight's beer: Heavy Seas Double Cannon
Bitterness detonates at the start: flowers and musky tropical fruits dance on the perimeter of waves of citrus (lime and grapefruit and orange), pine, grass. Bready sweetness lies in layers beneath, with some caramel and honey along for the ride. After the brief sweet kiss, the beer caroms to almost viciously dry with a lingering finish.
Just a little thicker than medium-bodied, nicely carbonated. A bit of syrupy-resinous stickiness, a touch of chewiness. Rapidly turns drying and scrubbing, cleansing and refreshing. A background aura of booze, quite restrained for 9.5% ABV.
Wow. Even having had this before (and recently), I'm kinda in awe. This beer is explosively intense and bogglingly complex, deliriously unbalanced but entirely integrated and stunningly drinkable. Distinctly strong, but supple and subtle and graceful. Heavy seas *nailed* this.
