Tonight's beer: Jail House Mugshot
Starts very bitter: flowers and grass, backed by pine and citrus; maybe a whisper of something musky-tropical around the edges. Bready-caramel sweetness threaded with dried fruit lurks in the background, arising through the middle. Dries out sharply around the finish.
A little on the light side of medium-bodied, lots of fine carbonation. Scrubbing, scouring, cleansing; impressively drying and refreshing. Just a scrim of syrupy stickiness.
Very, very nice."Balanced" isn't a word that normally comes to mind when describing IPAs, but this one is close: definitely poised. Intense and hella complex, integrated and massively drinkable. I don't get as much opportunity to drink Jail House's beers all that often, but they're always tasty.
