Southern Tier 2XONE

Tonight's beer: Southern Tier 2XONE

Southern Tier 2XONE

Exceptionally bitter to start: floral and musky, with tropical fruits—mostly pineapples and melons—dancing in the interstices; pine and citrus (limes, oranges, grapefruit) woven in. Bready sweetness emerges briefly around the middle, before the beer veers sharply toward dry.

Medium-bodied and nicely-carbonated. A bit of resinous-syrupy stickiness but mostly clean, cleansing and drying and powerfully refreshing. Practically no alcohol presence.

Yum! All kinds of hops character here, but gloriously unified and shockingly well-balanced. Intense and bogglingly complex, especially for the overt simplicity of the recipe. Distressingly drinkable. Southern Tier has been one of my favorite breweries for a long, long time; beers like this are why.
