Tonight's beer: St. Arnold Divine Reserve 15

St. Arnold Divine Reserve 15

A thick roasty curtain descends—dark chocolate, spiked with strong coffee—then parts slowly to reveal dark bread, some toast, some threads of caramel and molasses. Earth and grass orbit off in the Oort cloud somewhere, dancing to the music of the spheres with smoke and vanilla and burnt dark fruit. Creeps toward dry, slowly, around the finish.

Thick and dense, soft and chewy, some stickiness lingering for a while. Carbonation feels a little sluggish, but this is a massive beer. Maybe a soft gauzy glow but very little alcohol presence. Wraps up gently drying.

This is a huge beer, rich and imposing; it seems as though it's spent some time in the bottle, but it's holding together nicely. Just crazily intense and bogglingly complex; something like balanced (definitely poised and graceful) and gloriously integrated. Beautifully drinkable, with alarmingly little alcohol presence.
