Caramel, hints of toast; dried and candied fruits woven in: dates and figs and plums and cherries. Grassy-earthy-floral bitterness right alongside, lingering through a middle flecked with vanilla and caramel and peat into a slowly drying finish.

A little thicker than medium-bodied, nicely carbonated. Some syrupy stickiness and a little bready chewiness; eventually drying and cleansing and almost refreshing. Considering the 11% ABV, the alcohol heat is astonishingly subdued, just a soft glow in the belly.

Obviously, this is a big sipping beer, but it's a remarkably drinkable one. Notably smooth and graceful, subtle and supple. Intense, complex as hell; surprisingly well-balanced and beautifully integrated. Alarmingly little alcohol presence. I don't know that I've had anything else from either of these brewers, but I am intrigued; this is a hell of an introduction, and a wonderful way to welcome ourselves back home.
