Tonight's beer: Heavy Seas/Yards Philtimore
Grassy-earthy bitterness sits comfortably on top of pale bread and caramel. Flowers and maybe pine around the edges, hints od toast, dried fruits, spice. Bitter, then some sweetness emerges, then steeply dry.
Medium-bodied, lots of carbonation. A little bit of chewiness and stickiness, mostly clean, cleansing and drying and bracingly refreshing.
It's entirely unsurprising that these two breweries would team up on a drinkable—sessionable, even—pale ale. Really seems to have captured the spirit of English beers. Balanced and integrated, surprisingly complex and intense for 5.5% ABV; a beer that rewards close attention, a beer that insists on being shared with friends of an evening.
