Tonight's beer: Blue Mountain Barrel House Über Pils
Floral-grassy bitterness opposed by round bready sweetness. Hints of caramel, with toffee woven in; traces of fruit—citrus and otherwise. Precisely bittersweet, drifts slightly toward bitter, then sweet, then pleasantly dry.
Feels a little thicker than medium-bodied, more round than heavy, with decent carbonation. Some bready chewiness, maybe a trace of stickiness, then smoothly and gradually drying; surprisingly refreshing, clean and cleansing.
Less straightforward and linear than any conventional Pils I've had, another curiously labeled American Helles Bock (but I like these beers, and by this point roughly anyone who wants to know knows what an Imperial Pilsner is, so there's really almost no snark or complaint). Plenty of flavor, complex enough to reward close attention and intense enough to demand it; poised and balanced and beautifully integrated. A style that usually plays well with food, and this seems likely to be no exception. Delicious and wonderfully drinkable.
