Tonight's beer: Brooklyn Hand & Seal
Lots of bready-caramel sweetness, generously threaded with toast and vanilla and dark fruits—some cherries and some plums, lots of dates and fits. Earthy-peaty bitterness emerges toward the end, with flickers of grass and smoke, as the beer shifts slightly toward dry-ish.
A bit thicker than medium-bodied, lightly-carbonated. Chewy and a little bit sticky, notably soft. gently drying. Roughly no trace of the 10.3% ABV the beer is packing.
A smooth and drinkable barleywine, big and imposing enough that it's a sipping beer (or it really should be). Supple and graceful, nicely integrated. Intense as hell and wonderfully complex. Poised and something like balanced (given the style and all-a-that). Quite possibly the perfect beer to wrap up what was really an awesome day.
