Heavy Seas Riptide

Tonight's beer: Heavy Seas Riptide

Heavy Seas Riptide

Opens with lots of citrus and flowers and grass: a complexly bitter weave. Threads of bright spice a few layers back. Pale bready sweetness lurks in the background, with grace notes of caramel in the distance. Wraps up steeply dry.

Medium-bodied, maybe a little lighter; highly carbonated but soft and smooth. Cleansing and drying and powerfully refreshing. The vaguest trace of stickiness lingers.

A superbly delicious beer, from a brewery I count as very local. Intense and complex as hell, marvelously well-integrated and a  lot like balanced (with the additional axis of styles—witbier and IPA). Magnificently drinkable. A beautiful beer, a marvelous example of a style I really enjoy.
