Tonight's beer: Weyerbacher Seventeen

Weyerbacher Seventeen

Lots of juicy citrus, bitter and sweet in almost-equal measure: orange and lemon and grapefruit. Flowers and maybe grass around the middle, neatly poised against pale-bready sweetness. Finishes gradually dry, with a vinous prickle around the edges.

Impressively light-bodied, decently carbonated, smooth and a bit chewy. Powerfully drying and immensely refreshing. Remarkably little alcohol presence, given the 10.5% ABV.

A delicious and stupidly refreshing saison, astoundingly drinkable. Intense as hell and impressively complex, beautifully balanced and integrated, even after like three years in the bottle. Clearly not damaged by being aged for all that time. Weyerbacher's anniversary beers have been one of my favorite ways to explore various big beer styles for a long time. Very,l very nice.
