Andechser Weissbier Dunkel

Tonight's beer: Andechser Weissbier Dunkel

Andechser Weissbier Dunkel

Banana bread, drizzled with chocolate. Lots of bananas and cloves (maybe some other baking spices and bright fruits lurking), plenty of dark bread and caramel right behind. Some chocolate around the edges, earthy-grassy bitterness in the distance. Evolves smoothly and quickly to very dry.

Medium-bodied, very smooth, dense but lots of fine carbonation. A little soft stickiness lingers, peels off into pretty clean and drying, very refreshing finish.

A truly superb beer, crazily drinkable. Intense and balanced, complex and gloriously well-integrated. Less dominated by the yeast than some other weizen beers (and, yes, I know the bananas and cloves are up front here). At least as good an example of the style as their doppelbock is of that. Utterly delicious.
