Tonight's beer: Dogfish Head Punkin
Pumpkins and bread and toast, thick layers of molasses and brown sugar and maple syrup. Lots of baking spice woven in throughout: cloves and cinnamon and ginger and maybe nutmeg). Distant impressions of earth and grass. Sweet and spicy to start, evolves slowly dryward.
A bit on the thick side, softly chewy and a bit dense. some stickiness, but eventually nicely refreshing. Gradually gently drying.
A delicious pumpkin ale—the first I had, I think, low these many moons ago when I was first getting into good beer. Intense and complex, surprisingly balanced and wonderfully well-integrated. Poised and graceful and drinkable as hell.
