Tonight's beer: Flying Dog Gourd Standard
Pretty bitter up front: grass and flowers and hints of earth. Bread and caramel and toast behind, with rapidly emergent pumpkins shouldering their way into the foreground. Making spices around the periphery—nutmeg, maybe some cinnamon and cloves. Dries out sharply and thoroughly.
A little thicker than medium-bodied, with decent carbonation. Some bready chewiness, hints of lingering syrupy stickiness. Mostly clean, eventually pretty drying and surprisingly refreshing.
A very tasty pumpkin beer, not necessarily hitting my IPA buttons in spite of what's on the label, drier and more bitter than is typical. Holds together very well, surprisingly well-balanced; complex as heck and impressively intense. Remarkably drinkable; seems as though it'd be more food-friendly than most pumpkin beers, less of a dessert beer.
