Red Brick Imperial Stout

Tonight's beer: Red Brick Imperial Stout

Red Brick Imperial Stout

Opens with lots of roasty flavor: coffee and threads of dark chocolate. Dark bread and caramel emerge into the middle, with impressions of vanilla and maybe maple around the edges. Earthy-grassy bitterness into the finish, maybe a flicker of burnt fruit; the beer dries out slowly, almost grudgingly, but it gets pretty dry, eventually.

Thick and chewy, syrupy and sticky, dense and smooth. Decent carbonation. Some boozy heat and prickly, but very subdued for 10% ABV. Eventually, a little drying, but too massive and sticky to muster cleansing or clean or particularly refreshing; definitely filling and satisfying.

A delicious big America stout, giddily intense and stunningly complex. Balanced, impressively well-integrated. Impressively drinkable in that Big Sipping Beer way. I've had some good-to-excellent beers form Red Brick in the past, and this is another.
