Tonight's beer: Stone 19 Thunderstruck IPA
Lots (and lots) of bitterness up front: pineapple, melons, citrus (mainly grapefruit); musky tropical notes sprinkled throughout; pine and grass and flowers around the edges. Pale bread very much in the background, with possibilities of caramel. Dries out quickly and completely.
Medium-bodied, carbonation a little thin but adequate. Lots of resinous-syrupy stickiness hangs on for a long, long time (and makes the beer seem a little thicker than it is). Sharply drying, eventually a bit cleansing and immensely refreshing. Very little alcohol presence.
Stone usually do excellent work on their anniversary beers, adn this is no exception. Intense as hell and bogglingly complex; not even in the same universe as balanced, but well-integrated and drinkable as hell. Exotic and graceful.
