Tonight's beer: Ayinger Oktoberfest-Märzen
First impression is caramel-bready sweetness, braced against sparkling grassy bitterness. Flecks of toast around the edges, nuts and toffee; a trace of flowers. Glides readily to briskly dry.
A little lighter than medium-bodied, with plenty of carbonation; oh, so smooth. A little soft chewiness, the quickest kiss of stickiness; mostly clean and powerfully refreshing.
Wow. A beer that makes one want to celebrate, and celebrate and celebrate, until one winds up dancing on tables and eventually finally watching the stars spin overhead (or maybe that's the light in the ceiling). Magnificently drinkable, reasonably intense; mostly straightforward, beautifully balanced and integrated. Supple and graceful.
