Tonight's beer: Blue Mountain 13.Five OFest
Caramel-bready sweetness to open, toast around the edges, threats of toffee and maybe nuts woven in. Grassy-earthy bitterness arises around the middle, possibilities of something floral. Dries out smoothly and quickly and completely.
Medium-bodied, carbonation a little light but adequate, a bit of bready chewiness and a trace of stickiness. Wraps up quickly, clean and drying and immensely refreshing.
We went a little nuts for the pumpkin beers this autumn, but Oktoberfest lagers are a treat this time of year, too; this is an excellent one, spot-on. Linear and straightforward, but flavorful and balanced and superbly integrated. Drinkab le to the point of being slurpable. I'm trying to muster shock that Blue Mountain bailed this beer ... nope, no surprise at all. Very, very nice.
