Tonight's beer: Blue Mountain Barrel House Blue Reserve

Blue Mountain Barrel House Blue Reserve

A blast of bitterness to begin: grass and flowers, pine, hints of grapefruit and other citrus woven in. Dried pears and apples and golden raisins emerge around the middle, alongside pale bread; hints of toast and maybe spice around the edges. Mostly bitter, then a moment of sweet before a sharp transition to lingering dry.

Medium-bodied, lots of carbonation. Some soft chewiness and hints of syrupy-resinous stickiness around the edges. Gently drying, powerfully refreshing.

A delicious beer, from a brewery I'll go out of my way to visit (but that's close enough that it's really more like driving in that direction, and it's no big deal). Intense as heck, startlingly complex; balanced and integrated and astonishingly drinkable. Graceful and supple and demanding of close attention.
