Dogfish Head Punkin

Tonight's beer: Dogfish Head Punkin

Dogfish Head Punkin

Pumpkins and molasses/brown sugar, hints of caramel and maple. Vanilla and baking spices (cloves and allspice, ginger and cinnamon and nutmeg) in the interstices. Earthy-grassy bitterness pokes up its head around the finish, as the beer struggles to dry out (and succeeds, a little).

A little thicker than medium-bodied; substantial and chewy and soft, with ample lingering syrupy stickiness. Eventually a little refreshing and surprisingly refreshing.

A delicious pumpkin beer, from one of the first local-ish breweries I stumbled upon when I first got into good beer, lo these many moons ago. Intense and definitely complex, nicely integrated (if distinctly unbalanced) and gloriously drinkable.
