Tonight's beer: Heavy Seas (Uncharted Waters) The Greater Pumpkin

Heavy Seas (Uncharted Waters) The Greater Pumpkin

Pumpkins and baking spices to open—nutmeg, cloves, ginger, cinnamon; caramel and toast and vanilla smeared thickly on. Bread around the middle, gradually giving way to earthy-peaty-grassy bitterness. Dries out smoothly and slowly, slightly.

Bready and a little thick, carbonation a little on the sparse side. Syrupy stickiness, a little chewiness. A vague flicker of boozy warmth, then gradually gently drying.

Yeah, I really like these folks, and their beers. This is a very excellent, very big pumpkin beer; there's clearly lots of booze, but the presence is really subdued. Intense as hell and imposingly complex; beautifully integrated and something a lot like balanced, given the style. Nicely drinkable, though it's more than big enough to approach with some care, sip and appreciate. Yummy.
